Catherine Stewart
My visual arts practise primarily involves drawing, painting and mixed media techniques on paper, canvas and textured surfaces. My process involves a confident, expressive use of colour, movement and line. Textured surfaces and subtle transparent layers expose the viewer to fleeting moments, a changing landscape and well worn patinas. Traditional scenes are recontextualised, revisited and transformed. A strong emphasis on drawing underpins my artworks. My work is contemporary, innovative and alive with movement and colour. Country life is always inspiring to me. I am always on the look out for visual stimulation, finding joy in the everyday subjects which surround me, such as beautiful birdlife, old shearing sheds, rural landscapes and native flora.
