SUZIE RILEY

After studying Art and Design in Fremantle, Suzie Riley returned to her hime state of South Australia. She now lives on Bunganditj country in the village of Robe. Seeking the pulse and energy of real experience, living and working on the Coast is key to Riley’s connection to the landscape. The colours of the earth, the sea and coastal vegetation have left an imprint that has become part of her subconscious narrative.
Exploring the duality of nature, her work revolves around this important influence and its opposite, the desert.
Using layers of transparency and opacity, she builds up her work with calligraphic mark and thick impasto paint, combining a love of irregular shapes and patterns with carefully considered tone and colour, much as a natural landscape does. Suzie work has been selected in many of Australia landscape prizes, The Paddington Art Prize, the Hawkesbury Art Prize, The Tatiara Art Prize and in Adelaide, the Parklands and Adelaide Hills Art Artprizes as well as winning then emerging and subsequent Open section of the Fleurieu Art Prize One Day painting competition.
