MINHAN CHO

Minhan Cho is a contemporary painter based in Brisbane. his foundations began with Ceramic Art and Design in South Korea, later working as a furniture maker in Melbourne before moving to Queensland and pursuing painting as his chosen career. His work is rooted in the Australian landscape but rather than recording a specific view, he works from observation, memory and accumulated impressions of light, distance and weather. Through simplified forms, direct mark making and layered surfaces, familiar landscapes move between representation and abstraction. In his recent works, Minhan has become increasingly interested in reduction, how a single brushstroke, an open area of surface, or a shift in colour can carry the weight of a larger passage. This process keeps the painting immediate and physical whilst retaining a sense of atmosphere, distance and place.
