Rowena Dean

Born and bred on Sydney’s lower north shore, artist Rowena Dean went on to do her teaching degree later teaching adults and children in her own studio in Sydney. After moving to the Southern Highlands about seven years ago, she gave up teaching to continue her painting. Of her subject matter she says ‘ I have always adored animals, saving them, training them, caring for them’ and her compassion is evident as she captures their personalities in paint. Rowena’s portraits have become highly sought after but more recently she has moved to landscapes which tell the story of days spent between the tablelands of Binda and her home in the Highlands. The dramatic weather and rugged landscape with moody skies provide her with much inspiration. She is also an avid gardener and rose whisperer, she literally has hundreds of them and her photographs are as equally beautiful as her oil paintings.
