Kate Debbo

Kate creates oil paintings intuitively. Her subject matter often moves between abstract and more representational forms as the pieces unfold. She considers each work to be a page out of her journal, a reflection of her daily life and imaginings.  The works are made from memories and her direct experience of the here and now.

Kate’s whimsical paintings often explore the symbolically charged form of the horse.  For her, the horse is a symbolic link between our domestic roles and something more magical and surreal. She is constantly inspired by the beautiful and often surprising ‘twists in the tale’ of everyday life.

Kate Debbo immigrated to Australia from South Africa with her 2 children and husband in 2012. Her professional career as an artist began in 2014.  She has since shown works in galleries in WA, NSW and at various art galleries and fairs in Sydney and Melbourne. She is often approached for private commissions.  Through her art, Kate hopes to engage the viewers’ imagination and evoke a sense of joy and wonderment.

Kate currently lives and works in Margaret River, Western Australia.
